American Red Cross
We see heroes everyday!

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters, provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply, teaches lifesaving skills, and supports military members and their families.

We are a charitable organization -- not a government agency -- and depend on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform our humanitarian mission.

Is it hot enough for you?

Summer has arrived and unleashed extremely hot and humid weather across the mid-Atlantic and southern portions of the country. Heat advisories are in effect as temperatures approach 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or higher, with little relief in sight.

The American Red Cross has steps people can follow to stay safe during the heat wave.

“The blistering heat can be dangerous. It can cause heat cramps, exhaustion, or heat stroke,” said Sharon Stanley, chief nurse of the American Red Cross. “It’s very important to be aware of the danger and take measures to stay safe during this hot weather.”
